Big Data Analytics and Cloud Computing workshop at NIE, Mysore

Got an invitation as Big Data Resource person for Two days Hands-on workshop on Current Trends in Big Data Analytics and Cloud Computing On 3-4th March, 2017 at NIE (National Institute of Engineering), Mysore under TEQIP-II.

Inauguration:

The Workshop started with an small Inauguration and followed by a session by Ravindra Dastikop.

Sessions:

Ravindra Dastikop spoke on Current Trends in Cloud Computing. He started from beginning of era of Technology, various hurdles of communications barrier. He finally concluded Server-less Computing with “Functions as Service”, a new innovative service offered by Cloud giants Google(Cloud Functions) and Amazon Lambda.

The Circus :

My sessioin started with a ‘Interactive ABC’ game on Big Data as Ice Breaker. The idea of game was to know the audience understanding of Big Data and fun too. Introduction to Big Data, Hadoop and various Analytics tools were also been introduced. The presentation can be accessed here: https://praveenhanchinal.com/circus

*I call Big Data as Circus as most of tools are named after animals.

Later in Hands-on session covered on How to install Virtual Box in Ubuntu. Then the CloudEra and HortonWorks were installed in Virtual Mode to work on Hadoop Clusters. The students were very attentive and interactive. Most of them were Linux, Open Source enthusiasts. It was blissful to have such audience. Though 2 days was not sufficient to demonstrate on Clustering in Hadoop, but nevertheless it was fun explore under Stacks.

About Mysore:

I felt Mysore as one of best cities to live in. Wide roads. No trash dumps on roads. No Traffic. Beautifully planned localities. ‘Davangere Benne Dosa and Capsicum Fried Rice’ was tasty.

Mysore runs the auto on Meter, a great advantage for strangers to roam in city. Interestingly saw a old conventional Hire Meter in an Auto while heading back from Chamundi Pada.

Assimilation:

Hangout with Ravindra Dastikop Sir is as always resourceful. Gained knowledge on Bureaucracy Red Tape. His new insights on ‘How Technology enables when Words Fail?’ was eye opener. Learnt a lot about Mysore and its heritage. He is a best example of “Deep conversations with Open minded people are best.” Had insights on MongoDB and R with Prof. Ramachandra Yadwad.

Thanks to Prof. Rashmi M R for her efforts and cooperation to give the best in terms of hospitality.

Overall it was great learning experience, which never stops.
